From a 2023 Maine auction and from the collection of Jennifer Chandler, this is a large, vintage lithograph of the 1922 painting "Daybreak" by Maxfield Parrish.  It's very rare to find this print in such good condition with such strong color. It's presented under glass in its The House of Art, original frame.

Published by Reinthal & Newman and distributed by The House of Art, "Daybreak" was the most popular art print of the 20th century. It was such a sensation when it was published in 1923, it established Maxfield Parrish as the leading illustrator of his time.

The romantic scene is reminiscent of a dramatically lit stage set, and the painting's symmetrical composition is peaceful and dreamy. This is a fine example of the work of Maxfield Parrish who is famous for his distinctive saturated hues and idealized neo-classical imagery.

The American company Reinthal & Newman (1906-1928) published lithographs of original art by many contemporary, now-famous artists. The lithographic technology they used was so accurate that Maxfield Parrish entrusted his paintings to be reproduced to match the rich colors and tones of his work.

The House of Art, NY was the distributive arm of that company. After Reinthal & Newman closed in 1928, The House of Art continued through the 1950s to distribute Reinthal & Newman art prints.

The beautiful ornate frame is original to the lithograph, purchased along with the print from The House of Art, New York. Please note the label on the back of the frame.
