Antique Book 1832 Memoir of The Life & Ministry of Mr. William Bramwell

William Bramwell (1759 – 1818) was an English Methodist preacher who had a significant influence during a successful Christian revival in Yorkshire.

Raised in an Anglican family, young William embarked in a pursuit for spiritual enlightenment, exploring Roman Catholic practices and later turned to the Church of England where he eventually received his confirmation.

William later attended a Methodist meeting and was converted by an evangelical preacher. He then became a member of the local Methodist Society (1780) and later met the founder of Methodism himself, John Wesley (1781).

He eventually became a disciple of Wesley and began to preach locally, focusing on Wesley’s doctrine of entire sanctification.

By 1785, Bramwell had become a full-time Wesleyan minister, continuing to serve in Liverpool, Canterbury, Blackburn, and Colne.

After Wesley’s passing, the movement continued to thrive but not without challenges and conflict. Bramwell continued to preach but the movement experienced much division.

Bramwell died unexpectedly in 1818, at the age of 59.
