  Stephanie Kewistep was born November 1, 1966, in the Yellow Quill Reserve. Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. Kewistep did not take up painting until adulthood. Stephanie Kewistep’s uses various traditional Indian art styles. Using ovals and ovoids of the Haida plus the flowing lines of the Woodland styles. Female Aboriginal artists carving or painting in public is a rare sight.  

  Stephanie Kewistep trained under the supervision of Heiltsuk artist Ben Houstie and Northern Tutchone artist Richard Shorty. She has been working for over eleven years producing original paintings, limited edition prints, drums, paddles, and t-shirts. Her artwork has been shown in galleries throughout British Columbia, as well as in private collections and various organizations in a worldwide market.
