Decals: The sheet contains
decals for three United States Army Air Force (USAAF) Lockheed P-38 Lightning
aircraft of the 367th Fighter Group (FG), 9th Air Force (AF), a P-38J
serving with the 392nd Fighter Squadron (FS) flown by Second Lieutenant
(2nd Lt) Pius Gregory Kuntz, a P-38L serving with the 392nd FS flown by the
Commanding Officer (CO) of the 367th FG, Colonel (Col) Edwin S. "Chick"
Chickering, and a P-38J serving with the 394th FS flown by First Lieutenant (1st Lt) Watts Estabrook.
Includes three
digit Black bureau numbers for the nose surfaces of Estabrook’s P-38, Black aircraft
codes for the tail booms, larger Black aircraft codes for the inner tail fin
surfaces, nose art in the form of Black “NAPOLEON'S ~DELIGHT’NIN’” titles within a Dark Red
splash incorporating a White lightning bolt striking through a Yellow ‘sunset’
with the German tail insignia at the centre of the ‘sun’ for the nose surfaces
of Kuntz’s P-38J, Yellow edged in Black “Gung Ho” titles over artwork of a ‘Bugs Bunny’ cartoon
character and a Green ‘dragon’ both staring at an old fashioned Black round fused
biomb for
the nose surfaces of Chickering’s P-38L, Yellow edged in Black “"Hey Stuff"” titles
over artwork of seated ‘Bugs Bunny’ cartoon character for the nose surfaces of
Estabrook’s P-38J, 392nd FS aircraft markings in the form of Black squares for the
outer tail fin surfaces, 394th FS aircraft markings in the form of Black triangles
for the outer tail fin surfaces, victory and
mission marking score boards, Black data blocks, propeller manufacturer
markings, one instrument panel and a set of data/stencils including Black JACK HERE, titles,
NO STEP markings, USE 100 OCTANE
FUEL OR BETTER markings etc.
Note that the sheet does not include Stars and Bars.
There are sufficient
decals at least one of the three P-38 Lightning aircraft n full from the
sheet using kit Stars and Bars and the other two using kit Stars and Bars and data/stencils where
required. All three 367th FG P-38s are finished in natural metal overall. The two
329nd FS P-38s have Red nose tips. The 394th P-38J has a Yellow nose tip – the
decal placement guide has the squadron colours mixed up.
Also includes a double
sided A5 black and white placement guide showing the side, upper and
lower profiles as well as the data/stencil locations.
