This limited-edition bag is from the 2016 Gucci runway. Under then creative-director Alessandro Michele, the fashion house was transformed with an eclectic yet contemporary look, and this bag is the epidemy of Michele’s style. With his departure from the brand in 2023, his designs are destined to become more coveted and collectible.

DESCRIPTION

The Dionysus was introduced in 2015 and immediately became a house staple. Michele’s inspiration for the bag was Greco-Roman times, a period of artistic achievement, intellectual advancement, and mythical religion – making the Dionysus a god among handbags.

The bag’s versatility and elegance, like the Greek god it’s named after, is what made it such a success.

It includes a textured tiger head closure – a unique detail referencing the Greek god Dionysus, who in myth is said to have crossed the river Tigris on a tiger sent to him by Zeus.

Another historical element to this bag is the horseshoe shape of the hardware, dating back to 1921 and the founder Guccio Gucci.

The Fish applique and python details add to this statement bag.

This bag originally retailed for $5,900.
