1981 Press Photo Pre-Columbian Art Auction Items by New Orleans Museum of Art

This is an original press photo. Pre-Columbian whistle (left) effigy vessel and busts will be included in Saturday's auction of New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). When the prestigious New Orleans Museum of Art cleans out its basement and puts up for sale the unusable items, it's not called a "garage sale," there's a fancier title, a "de-accessioning." During the past two decade, it has become standard practice for American art museums to sell (deaccession) surplus works of art, E. John Bullard, museum director, noted in a report to the NOMA Board of Trustess. Photo measures 10 x 8.25 inches. Photo is dated 12-7-1981.

Please look at the images below carefully to determine the condition of this vintage photograph, as it may not be in perfect condition. It may contain wrinkles, cracks, and possibly even tears due to its age and how it was handled before it got to us.  A scanner may see a photograph differently than human eyes will, so it is possible that the actual photograph may be slightly darker or lighter in person.
