Replace your weak, stock, front main eye hangers with a set of these beefy ones! Or for you 2wd trucks, use them for a 4x4 conversion! Application: 1972-1993 Dodge Pickup and SUV Ramcharger, W150, W250, W350, First gen Cummins, or for converting your 2wd of the same era truck to 4x4. What is the front main eye On the front suspension of your 4x4 truck there are two points where the leaf spring connects to the frame. The fixed point, main eye (front of the spring, closest to bumper) and the shackle point, rear eye. Our front eye replacement bracket is a heavy duty version designed to directly replace your stock unit. It is also great for doing 4x4 conversions. What are the benefits of installing Hogback Fab's front main eye? The stock main eye brackets have been on these trucks for some 40+ years and are typically pretty beat. It is very common to find cracks and ovaling of mounting locations. That is where our main eye hanger comes in, it is a much heavier duty version of the stock unit and will bolt into the stock holes in your frame. Our front main eye even comes with a new bracket for your body mount making it a solid strong one piece design. We also upgrade the mounting hardware to 1/2" which results in way stronger clamping force! It is also designed for a 5/8" bolt for the spring eye for even more strength! Note: may need to ream out stock rivet holes. Here is an example of a stock hanger that has seen better days How easy is it to install the front main eye? Very easy! Safely lift/jack truck up and put on jack stands. Make sure to use proper safety gear and equip Locate the front main eye hanger and remove leaf spring from it. Remove rivets holding shackle hanger on frame. This can be done super fast with an air chisel. Another method is using a cutoff wheel to cut an X in the rivet. Then take a hand chisel to the heads to remove them. Bolt in new main eye hanger torque bolts to 60 FT/LBS Bolt leaf spring back into new main eye hanger After driving 100 miles make sure to re-torque bolts Note for 2x4 to 4x4 conversions: Remove stock core support/body mount hanger. Line up new main eye hanger where stock body mount hanger was. Mark/drill new holes. Assembly is same as above from there. Note: Front bumper brackets may need to be modified, but its worth it for a much stronger hanger! How easy is it to install the front main eye?
Very easy!
  1. Safely lift/jack truck up and put on jack stands. Make sure to use proper safety gear and equip
  2. Locate the front main eye hanger and remove leaf spring from it.
  3. Remove rivets holding shackle hanger on frame. This can be done super fast with an air chisel. Another method is using a cutoff wheel to cut an in the rivet. Then take a hand chisel to the heads to remove them.
  4. Bolt in new main eye hanger torque bolts to 60 FT/LBS
  5. Bolt leaf spring back into new main eye hanger
  6. After driving 100 miles make sure to re-torque bolts

Note for 2x4 to 4x4 conversions: Remove stock core support/body mount hanger. Line up new main eye hanger where stock body mount hanger was. Mark/drill new holes. Assembly is same as above from there. 

Note: Front bumper brackets may need to be modified, but its worth it for a much stronger hanger!

Note: For stock style steering bracket may need to be flap wheeled for steering box
