ART DECO SILVER PLATED
FOUR EGG CUP & SPOON
CRUET STAND
This is so Art Deco
it would be
impossible to date it
to any other
period.
It is an egg cruet
with a round stand
with four supports
that stabilise four
egg cups and quarter
moon slots
that hold the egg
spoons which
are not original to
the set but look
fab anyway.
It is high quality
silver plate and
surprisingly heavy.
The main design is a
wavy three line
design that epitomises
the term Art Deco
on both egg cup rims and outer flange
of the cruet stand.
The round handle and
egg cup
feet are embellished
with rows
of straight lines, also
classic AD.
The stem of the cups
have a knop
stem like you’d find on antique
drinking glasses and
the stand is
supported by four bun feet.
It is such high
quality – it all comes
apart with silver
plated nuts
underneath that allow
you to remove
the handle and the four nipples that
stabilise the egg
cups.
The Cruet stand is
stamped with the
Retailers name:-
Pearce & Sons
Leicester
A jewellery firm that
dates back to 1838.
It also has numbers
378 2 W
and the number 4 on bottom of the
handle and the base of the stand
near the central wing
nut.
It’s beautifully
crafted this thing,
every element screams
quality,
even the four added egg
spoons
are really high
quality plate.
The spoons have a shield
on the
front surrounded by
what looks
like an acanthus leaf
design and
a registration number
on back
255922 but no makers
mark.
CONDITION
Over all in good antique condition but
the egg cups show this set has
been used.
The silver plate is worn on the sides of
three of them and inside all of them.
All four have at least one small dent
and one or two tiny little indentations.
Two of them have a slightly bent
flange and a slight lean so presumably
they have been dropped at some point.
The spoons are later additions but
in very good condition with no
damage or wear to plate.
The cruet stand has no dings or damage
and no wear to silver plating, just shadow
marks where the egg cups sit but
these will probably polish out –
I did polish the set but not enough
obviously – the stand really is in excellent
antique condition.
Stand measures approximately:
17.5cm (6 7/8") high
17.5cm (6 7/8") wide
Each egg cup is approx:
7cm (2 ¾ inches) high
Cruet set without the spoons weighs
521 grams
Spoons add another 68.5 grams
TOTAL WEIGHT = 589.5
grams
