Alfa Romeo
Alfetta GT
All 4 Cylinder and V6 Coupés

By David Owen

Alfa Romeos are just one of those cars! You either love them or hate them - there's no in between. If you love them, as any reader of this book must, by definition, do, you will love the Alfetta GT especially. It's superb in two aspects - its looks and its engines. And as every Alfa lover knows, that's enough. It's no better looking than its predecessors, the Giulia and the Giulietta. Its engines are nothing new, therefore no better, nor worse, than before. It is different, though, and one can fall in love with that difference too.
Unlike the Giulietta and the Giulia, to get the chronology right, it's boxy and tight, angular in the extreme, and without the supremely well-balanced curvaceousness of them both. It's modern, in the extreme. Unlike the two earlier coupés, it's available with an exciting V6 cylinder engine with competition heritage which will make it whiz along like neither of them can (and that's in addition to the honourable 4-cylinder twin cam engine ready for the purist). In a sentence, it's more of the Alfa magic, yet really only more of the same, yet it's modern and available today.
Experienced owner David Owen tells an interesting development story of the two-door coupé with the Alfetta name, a name it inherited from an Alfa Grand Prix single seater because it, too, had its gearbox position in front of the rear axle and not directly behind the engine, as is conventional. No other book has singled out this exciting car in all its sub-series. Even the factory turbocharged track and rally cars are offered. A detailed story of a beautiful car.

DAVID OWEN is a writer/broadcaster with a love for Alfa Romeos in particular. He contributes regularly to a number of journals on a wide range of subjects having been on the staff of Car in its early days. He is currently involved in filming for his own video company.
