RARE Flush Hinge XTRA Vintage Kennedy 1018* HIP Roof Metal Canti Tackle Tool Box.

Thank you for your interest in this rare piece of U.S. history. The following is an excerpt from Kennedy Manufacturing's website.

"American ingenuity at work, Howard & Charles Kennedy created the country’s first metal toolboxes and storage cabinets over a century ago. Today, the first is still the finest – our tool storage is designed and built with the best materials and craftsmanship so that they’ll last a lifetime – guaranteed.

Kennedy Manufacturing was founded in 1911 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Production was moved to Van Wert, Ohio in 1914. Today you will still find Kennedy located in Van Wert, OH producing and marketing to the industry an array of classic and innovative tool storage equipment worldwide. Kennedy is trusted by generations before you, built to serve generations after you."

I attempted to identify this specific model of cantilever tool/tackle box and was unable to find an identical model on eBay.

*This box is nearly identical to the 1018 model but this one does not feature the full length external hinges on both sides like the 1018. The three hinges on each side of this box fit flush to the walls.

This box has a trademark label on the inside with part of the label missing (see photo). It APPEARS as though the missing part of the label simply said "Kennedy Mfg Co" and may not have had a model number. Could this have been made before model numbers??? I don't know. The leather/wood? handle, simple antique looking  label, lack of other expected model number labels/badges, and different hinges have me guessing that this box was constructed sometime between 1914 and 1945.

Condition notes:

This toolbox is in fair to good condition if compared to new boxes. For an nearly 100 year old box, it is in excellent condition. It opens and folds out smoothly and latches perfectly. I've found no dents or other significant structural damage.

The textured brown exterior has some discoloration/dirty zones.

There is surface rust on various parts of the box but nothing that penetrates the surface and compromises the structural integrity of the box.

The leather, wood(?) and metal handle is in rough condition cosmetically BUT it feels 100% secure when lifting the box-nothing is loose or actively falling apart. See photos.
