2. Lovely tiny figure group of farmers with baskets. Made by Thuringian manufacturer Ernst Böhne Söhne.
Ernst Böhne began his work in 1848 as porcelain painter. In 1850 he purchased an eauipment and was able to produce own porcelain wares. In 1856 Ernst died and the business was taken by his three sons. Before the World War I Ernst Böhne Söhne was a successful, internationally recognized and awarded manufacturer (1915 – gold medal at the Panama-Pacific International Exposition). However, due to a drastic economical decrease Ernst Böhne’s heirs had to sell the manufactory to other porcelain producers, Gebrüder Heubach from Lichte. After some time new owners became bankrupt and factory was closed in 1937.

This dynamic and successful company was founded in 1853, when 3 partners – Friedrich Andreas Kister, Mr. Dressel and unknown businessman – bought a factory in Passau. Their factory exported luxury porcelain figurines all around the world even while World War I. In 1900s company purchased 350 molds of famous Höchst porcelain manufactory, which was closed in 1796. In 1920s the business became a part of Älterste Volkstedter Porzellanmanufactur, but went bankrupt in 1936.
Hallmarks: bishop’s sceptre blue, technical numbers cut (period 1907-1920).
