1864 Gold US $ 20 GOLD DOUBLE EAGLE COIN 

A very rare and numismatically interesting gold US $ 20 reproduction coin exact to the original and used in the Blockbuster film Sahara in 2005

Obverse: Coronet bust of Liberty left. Thirteen stars around and 1864 below.

Reverse: Heraldic American eagle with wings outstretched with two latin scrolls to either side. The eagle holds three arrows in its left claw and has IN GOD WE TRUST inscribed above. Text around UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Text below TWENTY DOLLARS.

History: Used in the film Sahara this is a 22ct gold plated metal reproduction of a beautiful and rare full size Liberty head twenty dollar (double eagle) gold coin dated 1864 as minted during the American Civil War. 

The originals, designed by James B. Longacre, were first struck in pure gold by the U.S. mint in 1849 and were produced until 1904. Early originals such as this are very rare and much sought after.
