Botanical name: Diospyros celebica Country of origin: Southeast Asia, Indonesia
This is a Macassar ebony board, also called Coromandel. Its elegant dark wood has a gray-brown to red-brown base tone with partly regular and partly irregular dark brown to black color stripes. The wood is strikingly shiny and very decorative. The board is rough cut (circular saw), rough sawn, small insect holes (white markings - are only visual - not living!) not planed, possibly 1 side just darkened (if grayish) - after planing it becomes the same again, dry (approx. 12-14% production approx. Oct. 2015), possibly. partly one side only darkened to gray. Both sides are photographed - fine hairline cracks sometimes appear on the side - these are also recorded in the pictures here. Possible dark spots are only superficial and can be sanded off! Please note that with this wood in particular, fine cracks/faults/ingrowths/insect holes can occur from time to time (please note this before purchasing!). We will mark prominent features superficially with chalk as best we can! The dimensions are given with minimum and maximum values! Many other lengths available - please inquire! One side has only become very bleached/lighter from the sun - it becomes dark again after planing. There are a few superficial, very fine hairline cracks on the back!
