Damascus, as a technique, has a long history. It is believed that this ancient art originated in the Arab Toledo in the IX-XI century.
However, this technique got its name from the city of Damascus, which in the XII century was famous for products made of blued steel inlaid with gold.

The Damascene technique is labor-intensive: a pattern is cut on the steel surface of the future product (in accordance with the design - most often it is a very complex geometric pattern). On the treated surface, artists manually apply either thin gold and silver wires, or very thin gold and silver plates.

A brooch is not only a beautiful decoration, but also a practical one. From the earliest times, tunics were fastened with a brooch, the edges of clothes were fastened. Characteristic colors are bright, saturated: blue, various shades of green, white, black, purple and other colors.
