KURZBESCHREIBUNG

Rod Picott releases a brand new set of songs on Welding Burns in 2011. The Maine singer-songwriter, childhood friends and later collaborator with another revered Americana songwriter, Slaid Cleaves, has produced an album that will delight his many long-term fans and will likely bring on board a new generation of avid listeners.

Welding Burns features an earthier, dusty landscape of a sound compared to his earlier material, with ethereal steel appearing in places, and a husky tone to Picott's warm vocals. Will Kimbrough and Amanda Shires lend a hand, as does co-producer David Henry, in shaping this, Picott's finest album to date.

Taut drums, guitar, banjo and fiddle (courtesy of Amanda Shires) add resonance to Picott's blue collar songwriting. Writing that is much more than just observational, as this son of a welder in the Maine ship yards will testify.

REZENSION
The songs on this record reflect the realities of the time we live in, and they contain hard truths. The songs are both beautiful and disturbing, and are the work of an artist who deserves to be heard. I hope he sells a million copies. --Mary Gauthier
