Bio for Monica F. Helms -Served in the Navy from 1970 to 1978, on two submarines. -Editor ship's newspaper for USS Francis Scott Key (SSBN 657) from 1974 to 1976. -Written over 20 short stories, six published. -Short Story "The Phone of Plenty" won 3rd Place in the 1993 Arizona Author's Contest. -In 1998, science fiction novel Valhalla was published by a small publishing company. -Have three other science fictions books written, a book about submarines and submariners and a collection of short stories -Has a chapter in an anthology called Trans People in Love, published by Haworth Press, Inc. in 2007. -Have articles published in Echo Magazine, Southern Voice newspaper, Washington Blade newspaper, Houston Voice newspaper, Military Equality Alliance (MEA) newsletter, several blogs and Transgender Tapestry magazine. -Regular column in Transgender Tapestry called ". . . And That's the Way it is." From 2000 to 2006. -Founder and President of the Transgender American Veterans Association (TAVA) -Creator of the first Transgender Pride Flag, 1999 and donated the original Flag to the Smithsonian in August, 2014. -Builds and launches model rockets. -Build a 1:11 scale of an X-Wing fighter from scratch. -Has over 150 videos on YouTube. -Worked for Sprint for 25 years and retired in January 2015.
