DESCRIPTION:

Stunning Native American Hopi pottery polychrome jar by Verla Dewakuku (born 1932). It measures 4.5'' tall by 4'' at its widest, with a 1 1/4" opening at the top. It features the artists typically intricate, geometric Native American symbols. Signed V. Dewakuku Tewa Village on the underside.

Verla Dewakuku became an active potter in the early 1970s, even though she was born in 1932. From First Mesa, she was known for her polychrome bowls, jars and plates. Her favorite designs were rainbirds, rain clouds, parrot tail feathers, Twin War Gods footprints and Sikyátki Revival designs.

Very good vintage condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. A bit of minor rub wear to the decoration in a few spots (minor, but see last picture for example).
