A 9 1/2" tall beautiful deep TEAL BLUE / GREEN colored antique CITRATE of MAGNESIA BOTTLE put out by the OWL DRUG CO.  NOTE that this is the early version of this bottle, it has the tiny, RARELY SEEN embossed 1 - wing owl on it.  The owl on this bottle is kind of goofy, animated looking little owl. This is a slightly smaller version of this bottle than the common two wing examples you normally seen, and this example has like a target embossed base, embossed circles inside of another.  Ter.  HERE IS A MESSAGE that came in from another Owl Drug bottle collector who saw this bottle and wrote:  "This is a difficult citrate to find, with the tiny one wing bird and in this excellent condition, most of them are heavily stained.  If I didn't have a sparkling example, I'd be interested ... "  This is a rarely seen ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand Blown Into Mold bottle (BIM) with a tooled BLOB top,  dating back to the 1890's.

  • Bottle embossed:   In arch "The Owl Drug Co. / (with embossed picture of a tiny cartoon-character looking little one wing owl perched on a druggists' mortar, stirring a pestle) / San Francisco".  The mortar is embossed with, "TODCO/ TRADE MARK".  TODCo = The Owl Drug Co.

  • Condition: Bottle is in shiny clean condition. It has just some traces of content haze and age wear. There's a tiny open bubble on the top of the letter "C" of "Co.", and a few pin head size impact marks, part of the age wear, no harm and only seen in the right light. There isn't anything significantly wrong with it, NO crack, chips, dings, damage, etc. PLEASE see pictures for general idea of overall appearance / condition.

  • Age:   An ORIGINAL ANTIQUE hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-BLOB-top, ca. late 1800's.
  • Shipping: FREE domestic shipping.   We DO ship Internationally but we do NOT insure International orders unless buyer specifically requests this and we are able to provide an insurance estimate.  If an international shipping charge is more than the actual shipping cost, we will refund the excess so what YOU pay for shipping/insurance is very close to, if not exactly, the ACTUAL shipping costs! This is important for foreign buyers to know as most of our foreign shipping charges are estimates.  We do not falsify information on the Customs Form, such as a price other than what the actual purchase price is, so please do not request us to do so. We ship several times a week and your prompt payment will hasten the turn-around time.

What a beautiful bottle!   What is very different about this TEAL BLUE citrate is the tiny off centered animated looking little owl that is embossed on this one.  This is the early version of this bottle and it is a slightly smaller version of this bottle than the more common examples you normally seen, and this example has a target-like pattern embossed base, an embossed circle inside of another.  A large collection of Owl Drug bottles was finally broken up and sold off by a bay area collector who had started collecting them in the 1960's.  The collection had duplicates, even as many as 3 or more, of some of the rarest owl bottles.  We were able to get in on it before it went pubic and have been selling them off.  This is the last example of one of these smaller teal bottles that we'll have for saleThese colorful cylinder blob top shaped owl bottles contained one dose of Citrate of Magnesia, a laxative.  These come in several colors, teal blue, emerald green, olive green, and also the latest ones were blown in clear glass.   I know of one collector who has about ten different shades of color, from a bright yellowish green and pale teal blue to a deep olive green and dark turquoise blue color.  Then they also come with several different owls embossed on them, from a early large pre-historic looking bird to a neatly embossed multi-feathered owl on the last machined bottle.   The colored examples are not commonly seen, with all the owl drug collectors that there are starting to be, there are getting to be fewer on the market.   I think that bottle collectors in general buy these when they see them as they are so attractive, then end up putting them on the shelf instead of reselling them as they are just too beautiful to let go.  Plus it is one of the few Owl Drug bottles that are round when most of them are rectangular shaped.  When we first found one of these as a kid, we were quite sure it was a shampoo bottle from the beautiful look to it, as it reminded us of the green Prell Shampoo that was being sold in plastic bottles at that time.   So we called them 'owl shampoo' bottles, until we were older and saw some with Citrate of Magnesia labels!  An impressive looking antique  Owl Drug Co bottle herecheck it out!
