For sale is an antique book "Encyclopaedia of Human Nature and Physiognomy" by A.E. Willis published by Loomis and Co. Publishers in Chicago, IL, USA. This book is 133 years old. It is the first edition with copyright date of 1889. It is leather bound and has a thin leather covering that is damaged in several places revealing the hard cardboard material underneath. Especially the corners. The title of the book is embossed on both the front, back and spine. If more photos are needed, please let me know. The book has 627 numbered pages plus a few additional pages. The pages of this book have painted edges (I think that is what it is called) - they are colored for decoration. There is a slight yellowish discoloration around the page borders from age. This book does have some illustrations. The illustrations appear to be from engraving plates. There also appears to be an amateur repair between pages 8 and 9. (see condition notes). Make sure to read the condition notes, this book does have a few issues. I have flipped through the pages to see if any issues with the pages jump out at me, and the pages looked pretty good other than the yellowish discoloration. This book could use a conservator. I can imagine this was a very beautiful book at one time. See photos for a visual description. If more photos are needed, please let me know. If you have questions, please ask. I will always do my best to try and answer them.

This would be a great book for a collector or for a Physiognomist, or for the person who just loves old books. It would also make a great home decor piece, but I really think it needs a conservator, or at least someone who knows how to care for it properly.
