Very good condition original WWI
Imperial German 98/05 Mauser butcher sawback bayonet that is maker marked “V.C.
SCHILLING SUHL” on the left ricasso and dated 1914 on the spine. Bayonet has
early high muzzle ears, but was also made with a flash guard. Blade has nice
original bright finish with some patches of staining. Saw teeth are sharp and
crisp. Hilt has original bright finish with some gray and brown patina. Wood
grips have original finish and a good tight fit with some normal wear and
handling marks. Lock button functions fine. Fitted in correct original steel
scabbard that has black paint finish and no dents. A rare 1914 dated 98/05
sawback bayonet that will make a fine addition to a collection.
