The Hofbräuhaus Brewery, established in 1589, is the most popular beer hall in Munich and one of the most renowned in the world. Legend has it that Wilhelm V, a member of the Wittelsbach family and Duke of Bavaria, disliked the beer in Munich so much that he decided to create his own state brewery.
