This is a Marklin 37970 HO New York Central (NYC) class H6 General Purpose 2-8-2 Mikado Steam Locomotive and Tender #1890. It is the United States Railroad Administration (USRA) standard design. It features a digital decoder, controlled high-efficiency propulsion, and sound effects generator, high-efficiency motor with bell-shaped armature in the boiler, 4 powered axles, 2 traction tires, 72270 smoke generator can be retrofitted, headlights and smoke generator contact are conventional in operation, and they can be digitally controlled, lighting with maintenance-free LEDs, speeddependent steam locomotive sound effects, whistle signal, as well as acceleration and braking delay can be digitally controlled with the 6021 Control Unit, prototypical non-functional coupler inserted on the front, close coupling between locomotive and tender, separately applied metal grab irons, many separately applied details, figures of a locomotive engineer and fireman are included for the engineer’s cab. Length over couplings measures 11-7/16". Introduced at the turn of the 20th century, the 2-8-2 was an innovator breaking from the traditional manufacturing of locomotives, and featuring a larger firebox paving the way for greater speeds at a higher rate of power! Before we knew it, the 2-8-2 also known as the "Mikado" found itself in rail yards around the world from the United States to the Congo hauling freight from stop to stop. The Mikado would undergo a temporary name change after the Pearl Harbor bombing in 1941 shortly going by the McArthur, before eventually going back to the Mikado name after WW2.
This item has been graded per TCA standards C-7: Excellent based on visual appearance. There are light nicks and small bubbles in the paint on this model. The wheels & pickup show wear & light tarnish from previous use. The underframe shows a bit of oil residue from previous runs. This item has been inspected by our repair shop. Please see the attached picture for inspection details and additional operation information. The smoke works but is a bit weak. The instruction manual is included. The original box is included. Please check the photos for a detailed look at this item. Overall condition is Excellent.
