Watercolour RNR CHRYSANTHEMUM & PRESIDENT SHIPS EMBANKMENT LONDON SIGNED J RIFTWOOD.

Someone who knows the London skyline better than me will know the date of this lovely vibrant watercolour. I think it dates from 1980 or so (perhaps around the time of the Falkland Conflict, and the time I was doing Bermondsey Antiques market. Having recently left the merchant navy I drove past these two very attractive ships every Friday Morning just before 5am! Chrysanthemum has now gone of course but President is still there. Picture is signed on one of the barges, "J RIFTWOOD". Clearly not a well known artist as far as I can tell but this is a very accomplished watercolour painting of great maritime nautical interest. We used to sometimes have RNR folk on our ships observing us at work in the engine room. We would rather unkindly deliberately set off alarms to worry them as they stood alone near the main engine control platform with everything thundering along full away at sea!

29 by 16 inches are the dimensions overall, the size inside the mount is 23 by 9.5 inches.

A beautiful bit of maritime history.
