Night Mail (1936) / West Highland (1960) Railway The GPO Classic Collection DVD

Four archive documentaries about Scottish railways. 'Night Mail' (1936) is the classic poetic documentary made by Basil Wright and Harry Watt with music by Benjamin Britten and a commentary by WH Auden. It follows the Scotland Postal Special, hauled by the Seaforth Highlander. 'West of Inverness' (1939) documents the problems faced by a rural community and the growing importance of the railway to such communities. 'The Line to Skye' (1973) was made to support the retention of the line from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh when it was under threat. Finally, 'A Line for All Seasons' (1980) traces the building of the line from Glasgow to Mallaig.
