Jacques-Constantin Périer (Paris, November 2, 1742 – id., August 16, 1818) was a self-taught French engineer and businessman who founded with his brother the Compagnie des Eaux de Paris, a company at the heart of the great stock market speculations under Louis XVI. He is known for having introduced Watt's steam engine to France in 1779 and having built the first double-acting engine in 1789, only 6 years after Watt thanks to information collected by Agustín de Betancourt during a visit to the Albion mills of Blackfriars in London.
