“NOVA SCOTIA GLASS”

By: George MacLaren, Curator of History, Nova Scotia Museum, Halifax.

This book was published by the Nova Scotia Museum in Halifax as their “Occasional Paper No. 4.” It highlights the craft of glassmaking in historic Nova Scotia, with examples of some of the best work from the collections of the museum itself. There are photos and write-ups about dozens of different types of local N.S. glass, from bottles and commercial items, through to fine dinnerware and artistic examples. The text details the manufacture of glass, some of the businesses involved from the 17ththrough to the early 20th century.

This book would be a super resource for the collector, the glass enthusiast, or anyone interested in Maritime history. There is also a good text from the editor/curator, which puts these items into artistic and historical perspective. The book is packed with b&w photographs, showing many early and rare examples.

The book is a softcover, and is  large format, measuring about 12 x 9 inches. It is 44 pages, and was published in 1974 by the Nova Scotia Museum in Halifax (though, of course, it’s long out of print!). It is used, but is in excellent condition – no writing, no stains or soiling, no missing or torn pages. Top bidder should add $3.99 postage in Canada, $6.99 postage to the USA. Please don’t forget to check out my other books – postage always combined on multiple items. Thanks for looking.
