This 1979 vintage book, titled "HAVOC IN HEAVEN Adventures of the Monkey King", is a 1st edition hardcover book. It’s based on the widely-acclaimed colour cartoon film that was drawn from the opening chapters of the sixteenth-cen-tury fantasy novel Journey to the West. Its hero is the ever-popular folk hero, the cheerful, and disrespectful Monkey King, who uses his tremendous magic powers to frustrate Heaven's attempts to crush him. The story is illustrated by 84 stills from the film.

‘HAVOC IN HEAVEN Adventures of the Monkey King’ is from Chapters III, IV, and V from the classical Chinese novel ‘Journey to the West’ by Wu Cheng'en. It’s translated by W.J.F. Jenner and published by the Foreign Languages Press in Beijing. The showing abroad of the animated cartoon film Havoc in Heaven, presenting some of the adventures of the Monkey King, will undoubtedly rouse interest in the classical 16th-century Chinese novel on which it is based.

This booklet prints in full the three chapters from Journey to the West describing how the Monkey King defies the gods themselves and turns Heaven upside down. Monkey has been loved for centuries in China for the shrewd-ness, irreverence and sense of mischief with which he rebels against and overcomes all kinds of irrational and unjust authority.
