DETAILS: Estate collection. Photograph album compiled by Elizabeth May Schott. Titled "Little Journeys. Elizabeth May Schott Sept 1909". Ms May appears to have been a wealthy woman who participated on the Hudson Fulton Celebration and then went on to visit towns on the Eastern Seaboard on her way to British North America. The album documents her travels sailing through the Hudson River and then onto the locks and canals of the St Lawrence River. Her final destination in the album is Montreal, Quebec, BNA. There are 86 photographs in total with hand written notations below them. The photographs appear to be both albumens and early gelatin prints. Each measures approximately 4 1/2" x 3" inches. The photos in the books can be broken into the following four category:

1. The Hudson Fulton Celebration of 1909 --  About 20 photographs. Ms. May appears to have participated in the naval regatta and taken shots of many of the other ships. Included are a couple of nice photos of Robert Peary's The Roosevelt. She took the time to identify many of the vessels by name (The Clement, North River Steamboat, Battleship New Jersey). Others she identified with the type of vessel pictured (British Manowar, Italian Manowar, American Manowar, Torpedo Battleship Destroyer etc). She even identifies the background location (Yonkers, NY) and those of interest such as an early lighthouse on the Hudson near NYC.

2. Life around Northfield Massachuettes, circa 1909. About 20 photographs There are photo's of houses, people, life on the farm. Streets are mentioned as are other locations. These include a farm, people going about on carriages. Several around Mount Hermon including a building identified as a gym but looks to be more like a early government building.
