1961 Press Photo Kurt Katz adjusts the thermoelectric generator in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - This thermoelectric generator, key component of a new solar-thermoelectric power plant, receives an adjustment from Westinghouse engineer, Kurt Katz. The generator receives the heat of the sunlight reflected from a eight-foot reflector and changes it directly into electricity. Purpose of the complete unit--to mechanize the irrigation of land in areas of the world without centralized sources of electric power. Photo measures 2 x 2.5 inches. Photo Is dated 1961.
