Copy of Zeiss Sonnar 5.0cm f/2.8 lens

The Jupiter-8 (sometimes denoted in Cyrillic - YUPITER-8) is a post-war Soviet copy of the pre-war Zeiss Sonnar 50mm f/2 lens for Contax, consisting of six elements in three groups. It was produced with Contax and M39 mounts, both for rangefinder cameras.

Undoubtedly, the strong point of the lens is the image quality. Soviet optical factories were famous for sharp optics, and this lens is no exception. The edges aren't as good, but the center is.

Initially the lens was available only in natural, rather dull "silver" aluminum, but in the 1970s they started to produce it with black coating as well. It belonged to the Soviet class of lenses called "Jupiter".
