1939 Press Photo First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt at Gown Fitting, New York
New York: Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt, wife of the president, wears a gorgeous Koche white ermine evening stole, made of selected Alaskan ermine, over a new evening gown, as she is pictured at Arnold Constables, New York, during final fittings of the nine costumes she will wear when the King and Queen of England visit the White House and Hyde Park. The chiffon gown, in pastel shades of mauve, emphasizes a two-tone train of lime green and petal pink, with a corsage of flowers placed where the two colors meet. The train of the gown may be worn as a scarf if desired. The front of the dress is Basque fitted from the waist line to the hip line and has a wide flared skirt, billowing at the bottom with fullness and trailing a short train. Photo measures 8 x 10.5 inches. Photo Is dated 1939.
