Mackintosh – Quality Street empty Tin c1960s featuring Scarecrow.

A decent example of a 7¼” diameter and 2½” high empty Tin that once held Mackintosh’s Quality Street. No weight is stated but is was probably 1lb. The tin has the name of John Mackintosh & Sons Ltd. Halifax & Norwich Made in England.

For many years the tins had the two characters – Miss Sweetly and Major Quality. Often they were in wintery scenes as the tins (or boxes) were usually produced at Christmas time. This one is a bit different as the lid shows them in a field with a Scarecrow (which implies Spring time. Possibly made at Easter?) There are six different smaller pictures around the side. Rather than the usual purple framing this one has orange borders for the pictures. Looking up very close it shows slight tarnishing but from more than a few inches away it is good.
