FIGHTING SWORD
Wuvulu Islands, North Coast
Papua New Guinea

A hardwood shaft holds four bone blades to form a lethal sword-like weapon for close fighting.
It is beautifully made, with a fine balance. The knob at the base is to stop the hand slipping.
The sharp bone blades are tied with cane into the wooden handle, then reinforced with tree resin.
This weapon came to Weawak on the mainland from Wuvulu in the 1960s or early 1970s, and
was acquired by an Australian, who later took it back to Australia.
Age is hard to determine, and best guess is ''mid-20th Century''
