Includes eye draught of Madison's cave, fold-out of Manahoacs and Powhatans, and half-page map of Ohio and Pittsburgh rivers at final page of appendices. Modern calf spine over marbled boards; gilt ruling and red leather spine label; new plain endpapers. Light rubbing to boards and binding is sound. Contemporary ownership inscription of "Thomas Chapman" to title page. Mild staining and toning to pages and text legible throughout, folding chart significantly split along fold line.

An Election Year edition of Jefferson's Notes published during what Jefferson himself would call "The Revolution of 1800," a momentous event for the young republic, marking the first transfer of power from one political party to another. Overall a Very Good copy of the only book-length work published by Jefferson in his lifetime.
