1960s GORHAM STERLING SILVER
& MELAMINE SMALL TRAY
"TriviTray"
Small sterling silver rimmed tray with non staining
melamine wood grain look base that
just wipes off.
This small tray would be good for several things I should think.
Found new version for sale on high-end UK retailer
and they want about $1600 for a new one so this
is a good buy.
Found a few Gorham stamped examples
in different sizes and one 7 1/2 inch version
with a black formica base had a large sticker
under the base that read:
“TriviTray For Use as a Tray –
the center of this tray is laminated plastic that will not crack or fade and is impervious to alcohol, fruit acids, household alkalies, and hot liquids. An occasional rubbing with furniture polish or wax is recommended.”
The listed suggestions for use :-
for hot coffee and tea pots, for hot casseroles, invert it for items with a larger diameter, water pitchers and fruit jug, for sauce bowls, for cocktails, for salt and pepper shakers, for small sugar and creams and one other suggested with a picture of a large lidded jug that I can’t read.
Have to presume this is their Alvin Sterling version but I
didn't find any of this particular version listed anywhere.
Useful for everything listed above or for just throwing your
keys on when you get home from a long hard day.
It is stamped:
ALVIN STERLING
S-246

The firm Alvin Mfg Co began in Irvington,
New Jersey, in 1886.
In 1895 the factory was moved to Sag Harbor,

In 1919 the company changed its name to

silver

dresserware.

dies and patterns
changing the name to

CONDITION
In good used condition.
A few surface marks to the melamine and one short section
of the edge with a few dings of differing size as shown in close-up
photo but nothing sticks out and overall it's a great looking and functional piece.

It weighs 132.9 grams total.
