engraving antique of the 1867 World Tour
engraving on wood published in 1867 in a work relating travel stories around the world. With text printed on the reverse. It is titled Great Nile Falls, known as the Murchison Falls. Drawing by Grandsire. It is composed of a view of Murchison Falls, of the Nile, in Uganda between Lake Kyoga and Lake Albert. Samuel Baker named the falls after Roderick Murchison, president of the Royal Geographical Society. They then gave their name to the national park that surrounds them. Under the regime of Idi Amin Dada, they were renamed Kabarega Falls, in homage to the Bunyoro king Kabarega, but no law or decree was promulgated. The site was renamed Murchison Falls after the fall of Idi Amin.
