Set of three books in the "Gresham Myth and Legend in Literature and Art" Series

Between 1912 and 1930, Gresham Publishing published a wonderful series of twelve books under the title “Myth and Legend in Literature and Art”. The first eight volumes featured special, bright-green cloth bindings with unique art nouveau black and gilt decorations across cover and spine. Later on, Gresham re-issued the series in new, more minimal, art deco designs, adding four new books to the series.

Presented by Donald A. Mackenzie (a Scottish journalist and noted folklorist), Ascott Robert Hope Moncrieff (a Scottish author of children’s fiction) and Charles Squire (an Arthurian scholar), the books were advertised by Gresham at the time as being “the most in-depth-publication of the early 20th century, with many lesser known sagas and myths as well as some philosophical essays on mythology and paganism“.
