CD Contents:
Historic Archive Recordings - 'There is enough blue sky...' is a specially priced compilation, compiled around the themes of Weather, the Seasons and the Passing of Time. Designed to stand as a poetry collection in its own right, it features some of the best readings of popular works taken from the Old Thundridge Records reissue catalogue, thoughtfully sequenced and segued to enhance the listening experience. With a playing time of almost 80 minutes, the thirty-nine poems plus six choice talking book excerpts included are performed and tackled by the likes of Richard Burton (Coleridge, Hardy and poems by Donne), Clare Bloom (five readings: Wordsworth, Shakespeare, Shelley), Vincent Price (Shelley) and Peggy Ashcroft (Shakespeare, Donne). Other readers and the author's work they cover are the celebrated poets C. Day Lewis and Dylan Thomas (the work of A.E. Houseman and Edward Thomas respectively), V.C. Clinton-Baddeley (W.B. Yeats, Lear, Hardy), Ralph Richardson (Blake, Keats), John Glen (Clare & Hardy's joyful 'Weathers'), Helen Hayes (Stevenson, Carroll), Robert Donat (Browning, Kipling), Stanley Holloway (Lear), Thomas Mitchell (Longfellow), Margaretta Scott (Shelley), Christopher Hassall (Wordsworth), Jill Balcon (Tennyson), Julie Harris (Emily Dickinson), Tyrone Power (Byron), Cedric Hardwicke (Wordsworth), Eric Portman (Keats), Sybil Thorndike (Tennyson). The excerpts from talking book recordings include two much loved moments from children's literature from the full cast productions of 'Alice in Wonderland', the 'Cheshire Cat' meeting with Jane Asher as Alice and from 'The Wind in the Willows', '...messing about in boats' section, when Mole becomes fully acquainted with Ratty and the joys of outdoor life. Boris Karloff conjures up a countryside scene from the work of H. C. Andersen, renowned Welsh actor Emlyn Williams performs as Dickens and Celia Johnson reads the sublime words of Katherine Mansfield and Virginia Woolf.
