Japanese Okimono are objects of admiration placed in the Tokonoma - special alcove in private home.


The figures of Jo and Uba are reminders of love faith and longevity from a Noh play named Takasago.


Takasago (高砂, Takasago) is a traditional Noh play. It is considered a very auspicious story, involving a loving and long-married couple. The play was formerly known as Aioi (相生, Aioi) or Twin Pines (相生松, Aioi Matsu).


This very fine pair are Japanese Kutani kiln. Porcelain with richly hand colored enamels and gold details.


Traditionally holding a bamboo broom and rake (now missing) They also have some damage. Please see detail photos.
