◎「Eight Parlor Scenes Based on Famous Birds-The Talking Myna and Descending Geese」(Signed "Koryū ga "/Important Art Object)

◎In Harunobu's "Eight Parlor Views-Descending Geese on the Koto Bridge" (Plate 7, Vol. 2), the cry of geese is likened to the musical notes of the koto, or zither. Koryūsai, in "Eight Parlor Scenes Based on Famous Birds," has parodied the cry of the geese by the chatter of the talking myna.

The young man, astonished at the myna's high-voiced mimicry of the two lovers' whispered nonsense, has ceased filling his pipe to shift his attention toward the bird. The girl holds one hand to her mouth to conceal her embarrassed laughter. This simple scene has no meaning more complicated than is apparent to the eye.
