Selling here are two parts in one volume. Bound without the intial and final blank leaves, otherwise both complete, with separate dated titlepages, pagination and registers:

'The Annales of Cornelius Tacitus. The Description of Germanie...', printed in London, 1640. Translated by Richard Greenwey. The main body of text is complete, meeting collation: [6], 271, [1]pp, with woodcut device to titlepage, decorative initials and headpieces.

And:

'The end of Nero and beginning of Galba....', printed in London, 1640. With a separate dated title page, pagination, and register. Translated by Henry Savile. The main body of text is complete, meeting collation: [6], 12, 227, [1]pp, with a full page metal engraved illustration, woodcut device to titlepage, decorative initials and headpieces.

Small folio, bound in 20th C blindtooled half brown morocco over marbled paper covered boards, spine gilt lettered and with five raised bands, all page edges speckled red. Cream endpapers period with the binding, previous owners bookplate to pastedown. 

The book measures 20cm by 28cm.

Condition: The binding is firm, hinges solid with no cracking: in good condition externally, some light scuffs to surface and edges from handling. Contents are firmly bound, leaves in good crisp condition, general age toning/spotting, scattered spots and smudges from handling: first and final few leaves are notably grubby and finger marked, initial title laid down and with repair to lower corner, with several old ink ownership marks including one of a certain 'Dr Newton': final leaf also laid down repairing tear from lower corner which causes loss to a few words in some of the final 6 or so lines of text: pale water stain round lower quarters becoming more widespread through final half or so of block.
