Pair of antique early Victorian face screens, which have turned wood gilt handles and wire frames with hand embroidered mounts. Both of the linen fabric screens have been wonderfully hand embroidered with lovers coloured silk thread, with beadwork detail. The back of the screens have been covered with green silk, with deep cream silk fringe. AGE The screens would date to the early Victorian period, circa 1840, when it was unfashionable for ladies to have a "flushed" appearance, so protected the faces with these screens when sat near the fire. SIZE Each of the screens measure 40cm (16") long and 21cm (8")wide CONDITION The screens are in a good antique condition although several of the original rivets (holding the embroidered panels to the handles) are missing, causing the top sections to be a little loose. A small section of the fringe has started to come away, and this would need a stitch repair. There is some discolouration to the needlework panels, plus there is some wear to the gilt finish to the handles. Please refer to the above photographs for details of condition.
