KM 87, two year type, issued for Canton of Freyburg. Quarter dollar size billon (low purity silver) coin, with the coat of arms on the obverse.

Napoleon forced most of the Swiss Cantons to unify as the Helvetian Republic; the cantons revolted and wanted to be separate. The cantons regained some of the individuality under Napoleon's Act of Mediation, then regained their independence with the defeat of Napoleon. Later six of the cantons decided that unity wasn't all bad, and attempted to form a standardized coinage (signified by a C on the reverse).
