Arcam Alpha 5 CD Player with Arcam Alpha 6 CD DAC PCB Upgrade & Original RemoteGreat sounding cd player made even better. I've owned this cd player for a few decades now and it still sounds great.
Had it professionally upgraded with the Arcam Alpha 6 CD DAC PCB (at a cost of over £100) by what was the local Hi-Fi Specialist Dealer in Arcam/Linn products in Leicester (now called Cymbiosis). This was a big improvement from the standard Alpha 5, with improved dynamics and more open detailed sound. This also came with gold plated phono outputs, an upgrade from the standard phono outputs.
Generally for the age, it's in very good condition. A few age related marks. There's a small crack on top of the front fascia on the right hand side. Please see photos.
The only issue is that the cd tray gear wheel needs a repair. It's quite a common fault and inexpensive part that's available on ebay. However it's still usable and has not bothered me so much. I've stuck a small rubber foot to the front of the drawer which allows me to open and close the tray manually. The process would be to press the load button, open would appear on the display, pull the tray out, then load a cd, press the load button again, load would appear on the display, push the cd tray back in, it would then read the disc and then you're ready. The original remote comes with it and it seems to work fine. A mains lead will be provided.
