1933 Press Photo Copy of gun permit carried by Salvatore Spitale in New York
Salvatore Spitale and Irving Bitz, gang leaders who were go-betweens in the Lindbergh kidnaping case, were both arrested in New York on January 29th and held in connection with the murder of Tony "the champ" Fantang, who was shot down in New York on August 25, 1932. They are also held as Sullivan law violators. More than a hundred diners were thrown into a panic as police arrested the two men in a restaurant. Above photo shows the gun permit carried by Spitale, which was issued by Judge William Thorpe of Greene Count, New York. Photo measures 8 x 6 inches. Photo Is dated 1933.
