Biography:

Sandra Wasko-Flood (American, b. 1943)

Artist, Poet, Teacher, and Founder-President of Living Labyrinths for Peace, Inc. (2005), Sandra Wasko-Flood has a permanent residence in the mountainous pine forest of Angel Fire, New Mexico near Taos. She received a BA in English from UCLA (1965) and a Secondary Teaching Credential from California State College in Los Angeles (1966).

A printmaking artist, with works in many public and private collections, she chose luminaries with which to study at the University of California, Los Angeles (1966); in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, (1970-73); the University of Wisconsin, Madison, (1977-78); and at the University of NM, Taos (2009-20). Keith Howard introduced her to new safe etching methods which she has been using in her art work and teaching ever since.

A visionary leader, she founded the Washington DC Women’s Arts Center (1978), the Washington Printmakers Gallery (1986), and the Art Spirit Group, which relates art to spirituality (1985). An experience in the Great Kiva of Chaco Canyon, NM (1991) led her to construct “Dance of the Labyrinth,” composed of computer programmed light box images on which to walk (1994).

Walking this technology labyrinth, new to the history of art, led her to do following: Help found the international Labyrinth Society (TLS) (1998); Direct its first project: a labyrinth walking demonstration for inner peace on the east lawn of the U.S. Capitol (2000).
