1977 Press Photo Bronze Trading Bell Found in Browntown, Wisconsin - mjc38072
This is an original press photo. A construction site for a $6 million foundry in Green County has yielded a trading bell, Indian artifacts and a chipped buffalo tooth estimated to be more than 2,000 years old. The finds, though impressive, were no real surprise to amateur archaeologist Albert R. Schmidt of Monroe. Schmidt has discovered traces of Indian villages and hunting camps on the Pecatonica River and its tributaries "every half mile on both sides of the river." A bronze trading bell was one of the artifacts found at a construction site in Browntown. Indians, miscellaneous. Photo measures 5 x 8 inches. Photo is dated 08-03-1977.
