Description: 

A first Everyman's Library edition, 1963 of two biographies of Sir Thomas More. A Roman Catholic, More refused to acknowledge King Henry VIII as head of the Church of England, and was executed for treason as a result. His son-in-law, William Roper, asked biographer Nicholas Harpsfield to write a biography of More, providing him with a brief synopsis of More's life. Both the synopsis and the longer biography are presented together in this work, edited by E. E. Reynolds. Entry 19 in Everyman's Library Biography series.

In EL larger format binding style 4. Full violet cloth-covered boards with gilt-stamped spine titling & interlocked "EL" at tail of spine; orange topstain. In purple dust jacket with Geoffrey Fraser drawing of More's crest to front panel.

A sound copy: bright, tightly-bound and unmarked, though with foxing to textblock edges and slightly warped boards. Unclipped, unpriced jacket with slight rubbing & mild chafing to edges, otherwise bright, intact and wrapped in removable archival mylar protector.

RETURNS:
All items are sold on a satisfaction guaranteed basis. I guarantee the condition of every item as described. If you are dissatisfied with your purchase because it is not as described, I will refund the price of the item plus shipping costs both ways. If you've changed your mind about an item, or you just want to return it, I will ask that you pay for the shipping and I'll cheerfully refund the price of the book. In either case, items must be returned within 30 days of the date of receipt.

I rate books and dust jackets on a scale from AS NEW to POOR, as follows:
AS NEW - Used when the book or dust jacket is in the same immaculate condition as when it was published, with no defects. 
FINE - Approaches the condition of AS NEW, but lacking the crispness of a new book. These books or dust jackets should have no defects.
NEAR FINE - Approaching FINE but with slight flaws.
VERY GOOD - Describes a book or dust jacket that does show some small signs of wear or slight damage.
GOOD - Describes the average used worn book or jacket that has flaws and/or damages. (An old bookseller said it best, "In rare books, Good ain't good".) 
FAIR - Worn book or jacket that is stained, has loose pages, tears, or otherwise has some sort of significant damage or other issue.
POOR - Describes a book that is worn, damaged, stained or otherwise beat-up, making it useful as a reading copy but possibly not a collector copy. A POOR dust jacket is likely heavily torn, chipped or otherwise damaged.
