STAR WARS EPISODE I Asst. 84085 Collection 1 (Hasbro) 

If you close your eyes, you can almost hear John Williams' "Duel of the Fates" in the background. This iconic figure set depicts the climatic end battle to Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace and are the second set of figures to represent the characters from this pivotal scene. Major improvements to each figure from the first wave included improved likenesses and paint applications, soft goods skirts and a "hair" padawan braid on Obi-Wan. Darth Maul's lightsaber has a removable blade on one side to allow for single blade combat poses.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, a steadfast and emerging Jedi Knight, begins his journey as the apprentice of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. His story unfolds during the era of the Galactic Republic, a time of relative peace that is disturbed by the brewing conflict orchestrated by the Sith. Obi-Wan is a disciplined and skilled Padawan, eager to prove his worthiness of the title of Jedi. He is thrust into a series of events that shape his destiny, including the discovery of Anakin Skywalker, who is strong with the Force, and the defense of Queen Padmé Amidala of Naboo against the sinister Trade Federation. Obi-Wan's character is marked by his loyalty to the Jedi Order, his commitment to his Master's teachings, and his bravery during the climactic lightsaber duel with the Sith Lord Darth Maul, which ends in tragedy and sets the stage for his future mentorship of Anakin. 

Darth Maul, a Zabrak Sith Lord trained by Darth Sidious, was molded into a lethal weapon of the Sith. His journey was marked by rigorous training on the Sith world of Dathomir, where he honed his combat skills and embraced the dark side of the Force. Maul's striking appearance, adorned with red and black tattoos, reflected his intense dedication to the Sith cause. His mastery of the double-bladed lightsaber and agile combat techniques made him a fearsome adversary, as seen in his relentless pursuit of Jedi Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul's allegiance to Darth Sidious was unwavering, driving him to execute the Sith's plans with ruthless efficiency, culminating in his iconic duel on Naboo.

The STAR WARS EPISODE I toy line featured a wide array of characters and vehicles from the film and was released by Hasbro in 1999. It was a significant cultural event that extended beyond the realm of toy collecting into a broader social phenomenon. The anticipation for 'Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace' was immense, and the action figures played a crucial role in building the hype. The collection included highly detailed 3.75" action figures, which at the time, introduced a new level of paint and sculpture detail, along with increased points of articulation on select figures. The launch event for this collection on May 2nd 1999 was the first 'Star Wars midnight madness' sale, particularly memorable at Toys'R'Us stores. In a move of marketing brilliance, it took place just before the release of the film creating unprecedented demand, excitement and sales. The Episode I Collection not only catered to the excitement of the new film's release but also set a precedent for future STAR WARS toy releases influencing movie merchandising strategies, collector trends and the expectations for quality and interactivity in action figures.

The CommTech accessories works as a stand for the figure as well as allowing figures to speak phrases from the movies when placed on a separately purchased CommTech reader. Some had the ability to play certain phrases or sound effects when combined with other CommTech chips.
