engraving antique from 1825, rare, taken from a work on the great figures of France, its history, its arts. This print is divided into two parts, to treat two characters, in this case two French architects (A portrait & one of their major architectural achievement):
- Claude Perrault : Colonnade of the Louvre. Claude Perrault, born September 25, 1613 in Paris where he died October 9, 1688, is a French doctor and architect. Claude Perrault is famous for having been the architect of the facade of the east wing of the Palais du Louvre known as the “Louvre colonnade”. He is also recognized for his work in anatomy, physics and natural history.
- Jules Hardouin-Mansart (Mansard) : Hotel invalid. Jules Hardouin-Mansart, Count of Sagonne (1699), born April 16, 1646 in Paris and died May 11, 1708 in Marly-le-Roi, is a French architect. He was first architect to King Louis XIV and superintendent of the king's buildings. He is the great-nephew of the architect François Mansart.
